Sketchbook

Here you will find a behind-the-scenes look into artist Johnathan Kuehl's Kampp Tales sketchbook. We thought it would be fun to showcase some of the drawings that Johnathan created for both our Kampp Tales Children's books "Deer Dad" and "Uncle Turkey." 

When you see an illustration on a page in one of our kids books, you would never guess the amount of work involved in creating that illustration. There is a lot of work that goes into each drawing, for each page. Often times each drawing is drawn multiple times. Sometimes the pose of the character changes. At times the expression on the character's face needs to change. Occasionally the entire drawing changes and Johnathan has to create an entirely new drawing. It's a good thing Johnathan has both talent and patience.
After the drawings are completed, they are then scanned into the computer and then digitally "inked" and colored on the computer so that we end up with a clean and crisp illustration that is used for our books!
